Cheesy post title, I know. My apologies, but it’s fitting.
I looooove Etsy. Yes, with that many o’s. Maybe even a few more. I have never been disappointed with an Etsy purchase, and I love the sweet little notes that sellers send along with my purchase. One of my favorite categories is paper ephemera, because I just love old things. I love old letters, old books, old movies, old music, even a few old people (just a few, because most old people are grumpy and difficult, at least the ones that come to my pharmacy). I happened upon this postcard and had to buy it because it is A: adorable, and B: exceedingly old.

It’s hard to make out, but the sender wrote “but I can’t” underneath. Very sweet. But also a little strange, once you flip it over and see that the postcard is from one cousin to another.
Why would you try to forget your cousin? Doesn’t this seem like the sort of postcard you’d send to an unrequited love, not a cousin? Unless your cousin was your unrequited love, which opens another can of worms entirely. I know back then DNA hadn’t been discovered yet, so it was kind of ok to date your cousin (and it’s still perfectly legal to marry your first cousin in Alaska, horrifyingly enough), but I’m still a little weirded out.
The main thing is that it’s almost 100 years old! In fact, on August 31st, at 3:00 PM, I will know that it was stamped by a postal worker exactly 100 years ago. Pretty cool. I bought it here, and the seller has lots of other lovely vintage postcards.
In other news, Ana B., Esquire, of On Dressing Up has given me the most delightful award ever. Behold:

This is quite an honor because I have some really strong feelings about cupcakes, and I’m thrilled that Ana is putting my blog up there with cupcakes. CUPCAKES! Thank you, Ana!
One last anecdote: I saw a dog the other day, and I thought it was a deer. It was a deer-like color, and it had four legs, so I’m sure you can understand my confusion. It was a Chihuahua, so of course I thought it was a miniature deer. (If any geneticists are reading, work on that, ok?) The moral of the story is that I really shouldn’t drive, or indeed do much of anything without wearing my glasses.

Congrats on the award! Also, the tattoos feel nothing like needles, surprisingly. It feels more like a burn than anything else and it doesn't feel great when your arm feels like raw meat and they just keep pounding on it. ouch. totally worth it though!! Diana’s last blog post..Vintage Tattoos
Love that postcard, but I must agree with you that it seems bizarre that it was from one cousin to another. In fact I was so excited to keep reading because I thought a sweet romantic story was to follow and then eek! Thanks so much for visiting my little blog. I love postcards. That one is really cool. Kinda odd to be addressed to a cousin though. Have you ever been to Postcrossing.com? It's a site that lets you swap postcards with people all over the world. I love it. Kathryn’s last blog post..Spring!
Kissing cousins... and pretty open about it? Maybe it was an inside joke? Whatever the case I love your find :)
What a great postcard! You're right though - a little odd for cousins! Maybe it's a joke? Ha! P.S. - I completely agree that the blue shirt on my blog is for wearing on a houseboat on the Seine! :) That works for me!! Rebecca’s last blog post..thrifty wardrobe makeover
Wow, that post card is so pretty, but maybe the story behind it is even more intriguing. It's so interesting to try to make up a story behind it - lovely. Ariella’s last blog post..Vegetable muffins.
From now on, I will only think of dogs as miniature deer. For your information, first cousins are one of the categories of lawfully prohibited marriages in New Zealand. But probably not in some US states. Those poor lovelorn cousins. xx ana b, esquire. ondressingup’s last blog post..sick in autumn
