Let them eat cake

mamovieposterI know I’m about three years behind, but I finally saw Marie Antoinette. I’d resisted seeing it because I am not a Kirsten Dunst fan. She’s cute and all, but I’m not a fan of her acting abilities. But I finally decided to see it, and to my complete and utter surprise, I loved it. LOVED IT.

It was like stepping into this delectable little cupcake world. I loved the costumes, the cinematography, the music, and I even found Kirsten Dunst tolerable. I enjoyed the way the story was told through little vignettes. I liked how the story was more visual than verbal. The whole thing was just gorgeous, and I loved the ending. I’m very glad that Sofia Coppola decided not to take Marie Antoinette to the guillotine.

It inspired me to learn more about Marie Antoinette, and by that I mean reading her Wikipedia page. The learning stops there. Actually, it stopped about 3/4 of the way through, when I got bored. Because reading is awesome and all, but make no mistake, what I really like are pretty pictures.

This is my favorite picture of the real Marie Antoinette. It was considered very “unqueenly” of her to have her portrait painted in a simple muslin dress.
