I’m a huge sucker for any kind of bath or beauty product. But I know that a lot of them, especially in the US, where they’re not hardly regulated, contain dangerous ingredients that are harmful to people and the environment. So I always make an effort to read in ingredient label and try to stay away from products with parabens, pthalates, sulfates, etc. But it’s so hard!
That crap is in everything. Seriously, everything. It’s in your toothpaste, your shampoo, your cream, your makeup… So much of the packaging and advertising is misleading. They say “natural” or “organic” when in fact they have one or two “natural” ingredients and then the rest of the ingredients were created in a laboratory.
And when I do find something that’s healthy and eco-friendly, it’s usually out of my price range. I generally spend a great deal of time reading the labels, realizing that I can’t afford the product that I really want, and then resigning myself to purchasing something that will cause my future children to glow in the dark or be hermaphrodites.
I decided to check Etsy because I have been on a hunt to find a body wash that keeps my skin clean and soft without killing the fishies once it washes down the drain. And sadly enough, a lot of the stuff I found there is loaded with the same nasty ingredients I’ve been trying to avoid at the supermarket. I found one vendor, Crystalwood, whose ingredients all seem relatively harmless, and I bought a body wash. I’m excited for it to arrive.
So what’s a girl to do? Any recommendations?
I guess I just try not to worry about it too much. I don't really use a lot of bath or beauty products anyway. Good luck with your search. Amelia’s last blog post..Blast From the Past
I love to have bathtub bades! but don't mind the products, just if the water is cold! xx Raquel’s last blog post..looooong post.
I used to like bath products, but my mother scared me off them because many of the reasons you mentioned. When we lived in Hawaii there were a lot of natural products and good prices... P.S. I really like the idea of textile design, but I have no background in it and would have no idea on how to "break into the industry" as it were... I haven't been worrying too much about the ingredients in soaps and beauty products, but I do spend a lot of time reading the labels on foods because I am a vegan and there are so many bad and unnatural ingredients in food. Though I have been thinking about being more conscious about which ingredients there are in soaps and shampoos, but it's so hard when you don't know what the different ingredients actually are. Hmmm this is an interesting post. I guess an alternative is soap rather than body wash. Natural soaps are really easy to come by! ondressingup’s last blog post..cuba street carnival
