Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, which means that it’s time to stop living like this:

and start living like this gal:

Lent was never part of my life until I lived in Mexico, where I kind of didn’t have a choice. You couldn’t find a taco anywhere on Fridays. The main topic of conversation in February and March was what you were giving up for Lent and how difficult it was. I told everybody that I was going to give up smoking, the joke being that I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life. It’s easy to quit something you’ve never started.
Even though I’m not religious, I enjoy the experiment of trying to give something up for 40 days. Once I tried to give up swearing. That only lasted a few hours. This year I considered giving up chocolate or television, but I’ve a feeling it wouldn’t take long to give in and give up. So I’ve decided on something challenging yet possible: bread. I love bread. I love it in all its myriad forms. I like it toasted. I like it with peanut butter and jelly. I like it plain. I think I could subsist on bread and water and be relatively happy, as long as it was good bread.
We shall see where this experiment in breadlessness takes me. I’m kind of hoping a size 6.
What are you giving up, or what would you give up? What couldn’t you give up?

I love bread...i can't stop eating it! I now that i'll lose some weight if i stop..but no, i can't! :D
No bread? You're crazy. Uhhh...but good luck! I told my old roommates that I was giving up deodorant this year. Good goal, eh? Or not.
Good luck with your goal. My sister's have managed to give up chocolate and soda in the past, but I never make the full effort...it is a great exercise in self control. The Clothes Horse’s last blog post..Careful Boys She's Got Sharp Edges
I definitely could not give up bread for that long (toast is my favorite food ever) and I'm not sure it's the greatest idea nutritionally, but it's a good test of your will-power. I should do something like this. Amelia’s last blog post..Nothing's Going To Stop Me But Divine Intervention
How is the no-bread situation going? I have very little willpower when trying to give up on things - it never really lasts long. I would love to try to give up sweets, chocolate and ice cream alltogether. Do you know if you have to cook the crumpets inside those cookie cutter things? Can they be baked in the oven (inside muffin moulds, maybe?) or in a pan? Ariella’s last blog post..Answers.
bread to you is what rice is to me. i don't think i can do it (live without rice that is). im not exaggerating, but a day without my rice and i feel like im going to pass out. good luck though. and your right, my partner has cut out carbs out of his diet and each week he has lost at least a kilo = 2lbs.
