Hmm, this valentine is kind of menacing, but is by no means the creepiest valentine I found on a “vintage valentine” Google image search.
When I was eight, I wrote and directed a play about the history of Valentine’s Day. I don’t know how I did the research, since Al Gore hadn’t invented the Internet yet. Probably an encyclopedia. Remember those? I don’t remember much about it except that costuming was easy because we all wore sheets and Cupid was definitely involved. I was looking up the aforementioned history of Valentine’s Day on Wikipedia earlier, and I was struck by two things: my play was horribly inaccurate and the history of Valentine’s Day is fairly dull. Like, I’m pretty sure the play that I wrote when I was eight would be more interesting. I wonder if I still have a script lying about. Mom? You saved one, right? Anyway, this is just a cursory Valentine’s greeting. Tune in later for more details and pictures! I know you’re all dying to know what kind of cookies I made, what my valentines looked like, and who the lucky recipients were! Right? Right?!
