This darling owl was a Christmas gift from my mother. I picked him out and suggested to Mom that he would make a nice gift, and then forgot all about him until Christmas morning. I think he’s pretty darn cute. The sticker on the bottom says Kotobuki, which is a trading company based out of San Francisco. I guess they got it from Japan, but what part is anybody’s guess.

My Owl-ito
by AndreaPetunia gets babysat by the cat
by Andrea
- My poor baby, trapped with no hope of escape!
Petunia came over for a visit the other day, and Wiscious decided that there was only room for one princess at our house, and she wasn’t about to abdicate the throne. She hissed at my poor baby, chased her around, and was an atrocious hostess in general. When it was time to take Petunia home, I couldn’t find her… until I checked the bathroom, where Wiscious was holding her hostage. They didn’t name her Wicked Vicious for nothing!

I am not ashamed to say that this made me cry like a baby, as will anything that involves animals behaving more humanely than humans. Also, I want to get a pet elephant for Petunia.
Butterfield 8
by AndreaI watched “Butterfield 8″ today, which kinda… sucked. I suppose that’s blasphemy, but it’s true, and Liz Taylor would back me up on that. She and Eddie Fisher referred to it as “Butterball 4″. It was rather melodramatic and prudish, although I was surprised that it included the words “slut” and “sex”. That being said, La Liz was fabulous, as always (she won an Oscar for her role as Gloria Wandrous, a call girl who does it for free).
What an insanely gorgeous woman! While I was watching it I got a serious case of eyebrow envy. She has the loveliest eyebrows. I’d love to have those thick, dark brows, but unfortunately I just don’t have much to work with. I wish I had some seriously bushy eyebrows so that I could sculpt them a la Liz. Ah well. I guess when the Universe handed out perfection, it gave Liz the lion’s share.

How I know Kurt is a keeper
by AndreaAround 10:00 PM, I said something horrid like, “I’d club a baby seal for a cup of coffee,” and a moment later I hear the coffee grinder, and a few minutes after that, he brings me a steaming cup of joe. What a fella.
P.S. Under no circumstance would I actually club a baby seal. Calm down.
Inspiration
by AndreaI was nervous for my pottery class today, since I haven’t taken an art class since um, 1996. I read the syllabus online before class and that made me even more nervous, since the recommended prerequisites were drawing and handbuilt ceramics, and I have all the drawing skills of a preschooler. But the professor said today that our sketchbooks could consist of drawings and clippings of ideas, so I’ve gotten all excited looking for inspiration.

The design on this is gorgeous but way beyond me, but maybe I could manage the shape? I hope?

Tlaquepaque pottery. Loooove those colors.

This is from Puebla. I like how calla lilies are incorporated into the design.

These are from the MOMA store. The ribbing is cool, and I like how they look kinda beat up.

I know this is supposed to be some sort of commentary on our throwaway culture, but I’m content with the fact that they look cool. I’m probably getting way ahead of myself here. I have yet to throw any pottery, yet to make a cup or pot or vase, but in two days I’ll get that start!
