Petticoat Junction

by Andrea

yourslipisshowing First off, I’d like to thank everyone for the compliments on my hair. I’m feeling better about it, and at any rate, it’s better than the horrid grown-out pseudo-mullet I was sporting previously.

Second, how cute is this slip? It reminds me of when I was little and wore frilly, frothy slips under my Sunday dresses.  It’s from a company called Your Slip Is Showing. The price tag is not so cute: $295!!! ¡Ay caray! I’m pretty sure I could make something similar for under $20. They also have ones with ostrich feathers, which I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do. The craftiest thing I ever did with feathers involved gluing them to construction paper in second grade. These slips seem like a fun way to jazz up an outfit. A fun and expensive way to jazz up an outfit.

In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I read about these slips on Outblush, which is a pretty awesome website, if you’re not familiar. So yeah, I went out looking for an easy blogpost and I found one. I’m only human, gosh.

Ask and ye shall receive

by Andrea

Here it is, the Bruce Lee/Louise Brooks haircut. The next big thing, I’m sure.

On second thought, probably not.

I’m still not sold on it. The idea was for my bangs to lay straight but then I really look like Bruce, so I swept them off to the side.

Also, it occurred to me that it kinda looks like I might be fishing for compliments since I’m all insecure about my hair. I would deny it, except I guess I am fishing for compliments, to assuage the fear that I look like a kung fu movie icon.

FYI: Some comments are getting posted immediately and some are requiring my approval. I don’t know why. I’ll try to figure it out though, so that everybody’s comments get posted immediately. And when I say I’ll try to figure it out, I mean I’ll have my boyfriend do it. = )

Ambivalence

by Andrea

I got a new haircut. I’m not sure I like it. I can’t decide if I look like Louise Brooks…

or Bruce Lee.

Maybe I will stop wearing sweats all the time…

by Andrea

How cute are these gals from Hel-Looks? I am loving that fascinator, and I like how she took a dress that is probably from the 80′s and made it look like a 40′s-inspired outfit. This gives me a little kick in the sweatpants to quit dressing like a slob. Sorry, I had the picture posted, but apparently that’s verboten. Oops.

An American Hero

by Andrea

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! This is probably the best MLK day EVER. I say that because tomorrow America turns the page on the past eight years and begins a new era. I don’t quite know how to express the way I felt on November 4th when the American people made the correct decision at the polls– relieved, elated, but mostly proud. Proud that we finally elected a capable, intelligent leader. Proud that we put aside our differences and elected the first president of color. Proud to be an American. I hadn’t felt that way in a long time.

I think it’s fitting that we take a moment to remember Dr. King, the great man who helped pave the way for President Obama, a man who changed America and the world for the better.
